Qualified and experienced American mother tongue teachers are present during the whole educational day, to allow children to develop their skills, according to the Montessori and Reggio Emilia approaches for preschools. Italian, Spanish and French mother tongue teachers help the children become familiar with the language, in a playful and creative way. Children learn basic vocabulary through songs and rhymes during circle time and participating in specific workshops. All our educational experiences and Montessori lessons are planned to nurture the child and his multiple intelligences. Through our workshops the children will improve not only their linguistic intelligence, but also their bodily-kinesthetic, spatial, musical, interpersonal and intrapersonal intelligence.

The core of Baby Scuola is the practical experience, this is the first form of knowledge, exploration and discovery of reality that helps children to understand, interpret and reprocess what surrounds them.
Baby Scuola sees each child at the center of their cognitive development by supporting their aptitudes and enhancing their creativity, respecting their huge development potentialities.

Baby Scuola integrate the CREATIVE CURRICULUM/ FLORIDA EDUCATIONAL STANDARDS and the National Ministerial indications for Italian nursery schools Montessori and Reggio Emilia approach.

The general objectives are:

– development of personal identity,
– achievement of personal autonomy,
– development of sensory, perceptual, motor, linguistic,  social and intellectual capabilities and skills
– awareness of citizenship and interculturality
– discovery of the US and Italian linguistic heritage, as  well as the traditions of both cultures

Essential elements of Baby Scuola

  • -The child as unique and unrepeatable person

Creativity & Experience

  • -Creativity is a fundamental element in the whole planning of Baby Scuola, with reference to the Reggio Emilia principles.
  • -Children can explore and share thoughts, ideas and feelings through differentlanguages and intelligences: art, music, dance and movement, role-playing, symbolic and imaginative play, reasoning and discovery.
  • -Reference centers for creativity are the Ateliers where children, thanks to conventional and non-conventional tools, can develop their manual skills, come into contact with art by drawing inspiration from the Italian works and using natural and unstructured recycled materials, to promote a hundred ways of thinking, inventing and dreaming.

The teachers of Baby Scuola adapt and adjust each single activity according to the attention and the motivation of the group during the daily routine, respecting the children and the time they need. They observe them and hardly ever intervene while the children carry out the activities proposed. The teachers respect the children and their errors and invite them to correct themselves in order to strengthen and develop their aptitudes.

The school environment is child-oriented.

Baby Scuola is a comfortable and domestic environment where each piece of furniture and all the objects (chairs, tables, sinks, containers of didactic materials) are designed according to the sizes and the needs of the children, and the didactic materials are specifically conceived to support their intellectual development.

The Italian mother tongue teacher is present every morning and works together with the American mother tongue teacher. Italian gradually becomes increasingly used during daily routines, according to children’s ages, both during explanations and in using tools and materials during activities and while playing spontaneously. Children learn to use and communicate needs, ask questions, and share thoughts and feelings in English and Italian. In the morning the Italian mother tongue teacher welcomes the children with traditional songs and rhymes during circle time and becomes the main source and reference of the language during the daily routine and the workshops. Twice a week children are involved in Spanish language workshops. Children become aware of the Spanish culture and learn basic vocabulary in a fun and interactive way. For Italian and Spanish, the children will participate in the following workshops in the morning: arts& crafts and cooking, music, storytelling and psychomotor activities.
As part of our extracurricular program, we also offer an afternoon workshop in French (1 hour a week). Children are involved in singing traditional songs and rhymes with a mother tongue teacher and they become familiar with French culture and customs.
